Abstract

As the advances of technology bring some changes in education, technology affects teacher training institutions, especially on the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) that supports Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) programs for English pre-service teachers. Regarding the ICT integration in TPACK-related programs, this study was then conducted to investigate the efforts done by the universities and lecturers and issues faced by the lecturers during the integration processes. This case study was conducted in Indonesia. The participants were 79 lecturers from 25 teacher education institutions implementing TPACK-related programs. This study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-method design in which the data were collected by means of questionnaires consisting of 23 items and interviews containing 5 questions. The results revealed that in general, almost all universities had provided ICT resources, accessibilities, ICT competence development programs, and policies on ICT implementation. On the one hand, for the sake of ICT integration in TPACK related programs, the lecturers provided students with accessibilities, knowledge of ICT, and classroom regulations. However, there are problems faced by those lecturers to integrate ICT in TPACK-related programs. Thus, some possible implications of ICT integration are presented in this study.

Abstract

The performance of teachers in realizing holistic education can be observed from how the teachers prepare, implement, and evaluate the learning process or their pedagogic knowledge. This study aims to examine the teachers’ ability to plan, implement and evaluate to assess their performance in the elementary school learning process based on tenure and gender. This research is a quantitative study with direct observation, which was conducted on 162 elementary school teachers from 30 public elementary schools in Semarang, Indonesia. Data were collected using assessment sheets. The observer was the principal which belonged to the same school as the respondent. The data were then validated using Pearson's correlation based on group tenure and gender. The instrument was analyzed using structural equation modelling (SEM) and showed that the imposition of the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was achieved more than a critical value of .50 which meant that the construct was valid and reliable. The understanding on teachers’ performance was indicated by teachers’ activities in preparing their class. This study found that there was no significant correlation between teachers’ performance and teaching experience or that and gender.

Abstract

An earthquake struck Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia in 2019, and Sigi Regency was one of the most affected areas. Based on a psychological perspective, studies were significant to understand how earthquakes impacted Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This study aimed to examine the effect of social support on CDSE (Career Decision Self-Efficacy). As many as 141 high school students as the earthquake victims in Sigi filled out the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale Short-Form (CDMSES-SF) and Adolescent Social Support Scale (ASSS). The data were analyzed using the multiple regression approach in IBM SPSS Software Version 23.00. The findings showed that teachers’ social support successfully enhanced CDSE. Also, CDSE was significantly affected by social support received from peers. On the other hand, this study confirmed that there was no significant effect of parents’ social support on CDSE. The results contributed to the career counseling program for high school students by taking into account teachers’ and peers’ social support.

Abstract

This study was conducted due to the lack of teachers’ Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK). It examined the effects of teaching experience, training, facilities and infrastructure, self-efficacy, as well as motivation on teachers’ TPACK. The descriptive and explanatory methods with quantitative approaches were employed. The population of this study included 472 economics teachers in the Greater Bandung area, while the respondents were 217 economics teachers selected using the proportional probability sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the data was tried out to forty economics teachers. The instrument validity was measured using the CVR formula, and the instrument reliability was tested using construct reliability. The data were collected by means of questionnaires and then analyzed using descriptive analysis and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results show that the teachers’ experience, training, facilities and infrastructure, self-efficacy, as well as motivation are at a low level. Likewise, the teachers’ TPACK seems to be low. Moreover, it is found that teaching experience, training, facilities and infrastructure, self-efficacy, as well as motivation have positive effects on teachers’ TPACK.

Abstract

Indonesian language learning institute for foreign learners emphasizes on increasing the experiences and skills of foreigners to speak Indonesian in the real context. One of the models used to achieve this is by optimizing the learning process. Therefore, this research studied the learning model and its impact on the perceptions, satisfaction, and outcomes using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The sample study consists of 21 foreign learners and 10 tutors. Data were obtained from the experiential-tutorial learning, scores of perception, satisfaction, and outcomes through interviews, questionnaires, and tutor assessment on the speaking abilities recorded on document sheets. The study found that the experiential-tutorial learning was developed based on the learners’ daily communication needs. The statistical analysis results showed that the average scores of their perception, satisfaction, and learning outcomes were in the high category. Therefore, foreign learners have a good perception and high learning satisfaction in conducting experiential-tutorial learning to increase their outcomes. These findings indicate that experiential-tutorial learning is an effective model for foreign language learners.

Abstract

This study examines the estimated effect of curriculum reform in the Indonesian secondary education after the implementation of the decentralization policy in 2001. Whilst decentralization reform is argued to be positive for the improvement of school quality and efficiency due to more autonomy given for provincial and local governments, the empirical evidence on such reform towards the improvement of students’ learning outcomes is very limited. Using the propensity score analysis, this study shows that the curriculum reform has not produced a substantial return in the aspect of improved learning outcomes. This finding resonates with the evidence from previous studies on the impact of decentralization on the education quality in Indonesia. Additionally, other findings present a positive effect of pre-school attendance on students’ performance and the crucial issue of persisting gap on the education quality between regions even after almost twenty years of decentralization in the country.

Abstract

Technology-based media can increase students’ motivation more than equipping their teaching materials with traditional ones. This article aims to describe the difference between the dance performance of students taught by exploring local wisdom from YouTube and those who are taught by the conventional method. This quasi-experimental study describes whether local wisdom and technology via YouTube can effectively increase Indonesian students’ dance performance at the higher education level. A number of 205 students participated in this research. A dance performance test, two scoring rubrics, and a questionnaire were used. The result of statistical analysis shows that exploring the values of local wisdom from YouTube videos can give a significant effect on students’ dance performance with sig. = .000. In terms of gender, there is a significant difference between female and male students after being taught by exploring local wisdom from YouTube videos (sig. = .000). Moreover, females also achieve better than males in terms of creativity including fluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality of their dance products. The results of the questionnaire reveal that students appreciate and feel helped by integrating local wisdom and YouTube videos in the choreography course and agree that the values of local wisdom direct their dance performance in terms of movement, attitude, costume, and creativity.

Abstract

Information technology and communication adoption, including social media, remains an interesting research theme in this digital era, especially in a developing country like Indonesia. A survey of principals’ perceptions in Indonesia on the factors that influence the use of social media for instructional leadership serves as the focus of this study. Using a sequential approach, 122 principals responded to the questionnaire which adapted the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) containing six constructs namely perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, perceived attitude, perceived facilitating conditions, subjective norm, and behavioral intention to use technology; and seven of them were interviewed to give further explanations on their perception. The different test was used on for the results of the interview for the quantitative data analysis and thematic analysis. This research finds that the principals’ use of the social media in instructional leadership is considered satisfactory. There is no significant difference regarding the use of social media for instructional leadership based on sex or age, but there is a significant difference based on age in which principals aged more than 50 years have the highest average of TAM. From the interviews, it can be concluded that principals use social media for work to make communication more effective and efficient. The use of social media between the principal and teaching staff proves to be a great way for communication and supervision, not only to report on the teaching and learning process, but also other activities such as administrative reports and financial discussions.

Abstract

A study was conducted among school students in Baling district, Kedah to study their level of knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding water-saving. A quantitative approach was adopted by survey instrument. The study sample consisted of 144 students, selected based using simple random sampling technique while stratified random technique was used to select school. Pearson’s correlation and t-test were used used to analyse the data. Based on the findings, it was found that the level of knowledge and the level of attitude were high in water-saving, while the water-saving practice was at a moderate level. The t-test results showed that knowledge, attitude, and practice did not have a significant difference in water-saving. The results of the Pearson’s correlation showed a moderately positive relationship between the water-saving knowledge and water-saving practice and a moderately positive relationship between water-saving attitude and practice. Overall, it can be concluded that the students had a high level of knowledge and attitude in water-saving. However, water-saving practice was still at a moderate level, and students need to improve their water-saving practice from time to time.
